The King Came Down
by Brahm Stuart
The king came down one sunny morn,he came down from his castle high,
He came to ride out over his lands and upon his people to spy;
He came to ride through his wooded hills and down to the plains below,
To the towns and the fields and the rivers and lakes
Where his people did live and grow.
He came to fill his lungs with the air that blows from the mountains high,
He came to feel the wind on his face and to gaze at the clear blue sky;
The king came down to bring forth goodwill, to bestow his wisdom and love,
And wherever he went the people cried out
" The king has come down from above ! "
The king came down one glorious morn, he came down from his castle strong,
He wanted to see his gardens green and to hear his sparrows' song;
He came to ride o'er the winding roads to every town and every countryside,
He wanted to see that all went well in his kingdom vast and wide.
He came to visit the smith in his shop and the farmer with his hoe,
He wanted to hear the voices of gladness singing in the valleys below;
The king came down to bring forth goodwill, to bestow his wisdom and love,
And wherever he went the people cried out
" The king has come down from above ! "
The king came down one brilliant morn as the sun glistened in his eye,
He came to ride out over his lands and upon his people to spy;
He came with strength and his banner bold did flap like a sign in the wind,
And all who saw him were filled with joy for he was a good king to them.
He came to smell the scent of his trees and to taste the corn of his land,
He wanted to see that his people were living in peace, hand in hand;
The king came down to bring forth goodwill, to bestow his wisdom and love,
And wherever he went the people cried out
" The king has come down from above ! "
The king came down one frightening morn with the wrath of God in his face,
For he came to put all wretched evil doers in their place;
He came with power and with light from which no man could hide,
He came to restore righteousness in his kingdom vast and wide.
The king came down to bring forth goodwill, to bestow his wisdom and love,
And wherever he went the people cried out
" The king has come down from above ! "
The king came down to bring forth goodwill, to bestow his wisdom and love,
And wherever he went the people cried out
" The king has come down from above ! "
